In the tradition of poetry and painting, William Blake (1757-1827) is a special case. As the first man to truly combine poetry and painting, he is different from the seventeenth-century Baroque artist in the tradition of “Ut Pictura Poesis” and ten different from the ten in the tradition Eighth century poet. In writing, he began with the satirical literature, drawing on the English translations of the Bible, Spencer’s allegory poems, Gothic ballads and the history drama of Shababati.
