联合国教科文组织(UNESCO)、世界气象组织(WMO)和国际科学协会(ICSU)于1993年3月22～26日在巴黎教科文组织总部联合召开了第四届国际水文大会。大会就水文研究和业务水文如何才能满足二十一世纪的需要这个问题认真展开了讨论。UNESCO和WMO每隔六年联合召开一次国际水文大会,迄今已经举行了三届。水文大会的目的是协调两个组织在水文和水资源方面的活动,以求取得最佳合作。鉴于非政府间的科技组织在各自的业务领域中开展的与水有关的活动起着日益重要的作用,第四届国际水文大会也邀请了国际科学协会作为发起单位。
The UNESCO, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the International Society for Science (ICSU) jointly held the Fourth International Hydrographic Conference at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris from March 22 to March 26, 1993. The conference carefully discussed the issue of how hydrological research and operational hydrology can meet the needs of the 21st century. UNESCO and WMO jointly hold an international hydrographic conference every six years and have held three sessions so far. The purpose of the hydrological conference is to coordinate the activities of the two organizations in hydrology and water resources in order to achieve the best cooperation. Given that water-related activities carried out by non-governmental science and technology organizations in their respective fields of operations are playing an increasingly important role, the Fourth International Hydrographic Congress also invited the International Scientific Association as the initiator.
