素质教育是针对人的本质特征进行教育培养,使良好行为或品质固定下来并具有恒定特性的教育过程。素质教育应包括这样三个方面,即身体素质、心理素质教育和社会性素质教育。思想政治素质是最重要的素质,而道德品质是素质教育的灵魂。要突出德育的首要位置,要把学生成为“四有新人”,要使他们不仅有知识的储备,还要具有爱国主义情感,树立正确的人生观、价值观以及具有高尚的审美情趣等。下面,仅粗浅谈一谈对英语教学中的德育教育的一些方法的讨论。
一、榜样激励法
教师可以利用课本本身的情节,主人公的精神品质来激励学生。课文中有许多这样的材料。SB1BUnit 20 L78 Paper 课文中第一段讲道:“The Chinese have been making paper for two thousand years; paper was one of the most important inventions the whole of Chinese history. As a result of this invention, much is known about Chinese history because records were kept on paper. However, in other parts of the world, much of the history over hundreds of years is completely unknown. As there was no paper in these countries, no records were kept.” 又如SBIB Unit 24L94 A Farming Pioneer 中一段讲道:“China was one of the first countries in the world to study the science of farming.” “While pepole in other countries in the world were trying to catch wild animals and birds and were still collecting seeds and nuts, farmers in China were developing the science of agriculture.”通过以上两则事实的描述对学生进行爱国主义教育,促进学生产生民族自豪感,激发学生的爱国主义情感。
SB2B Unit 13 L50 Albert Einstein 文中通过对 Albert Einstein 的学习,特别是其中“He stuck to his opinion and went on with his research but he asked for very little money.” 这表现出 Albert Einstein 追求真理、坚持真理的科学态度。 另外一句:“Besides his work in physics ,he spent a lot of time working for human rights and progress.”这表现出他对人人平等的追求与努力。还有一句:“It was sand that he found in music the peace which was missing in a world full of wars and killings.”表现出他厌恶战争,渴望和平的思想。而“He once refused to speak on the radio for S1000 a minute.”则表现出他对金钱的态度。与之类似的还有SB3A Unit 1 L2 L3 Madame Curie一课,Madame Curie 将她的发现的一种元素命名为polonium 以纪念她的祖国,表现她的爱国情感。“We must believe that each one of us is able to do something well, and that, when we discover what this something is, we must work hard at it until we succeed.” 则表现出她对科学研究的执着追求的态度。“She refused to treat these new discoveries as though they belonged to her, and instead shared all her knowledge with the whole scientific world.”表现出她在科学研究方面的大公无私精神。
二、创设情景法
SB2B L29 Fiest Aid 是一篇两个人Chen Wei 和Susan主动帮助受伤小女孩的故事。教师可以对主动提出帮助的动机进行分析,使学生很自然的受到尊老爱幼、助人为乐、与人为善等优秀品质的教育。同时,提供一些场景或学生自己设想场景来进行分组练习。这既可培养说话能力,又渗透了助人为乐的思想教育。
三、总结课文主题思想法
SB1B Unit 26 L102 L103 An Interesting Life 中讲述了歌星 Bob Geldof 实施一个为非洲贫困区献爱心的计划。可以提问:“What did the writer want to show by telling us such a story?”使学生通过分析内容而了解Bob Geldof 的无私奉献和助人为乐的精神。同时,又可通过另一个问题,:“What shall we do now?” 使学生认识到要帮助身边的贫困生,要为希望工程献爱心,要为灾区人民出份力,要为建设祖国而发奋学习,从而激发学生的爱国之情。在另两篇课文SB2A Unit 9 Saving the Earth 和 SB3A Unit 6L22 Dealing with Waste 中,谈到了当今热点之一的环境问题,是学生产生了一种危机感。通过提问:“As a student, what shall we do to change the situation?”让学生认识要从自己做起,从小事做起,保护我们赖以生存的地球,增强了环保意识。
四、讨论法
教师可从学生的讨论中了解他们的心理、观念,然后进行比较分析从而作出判断,给予适当的补充,进一步完善学生的观点。从而很自然地引导学生树立正确的人生观。
如SB2A Unit 10 L 38 At the Tailor’sShop 一课中,可提出两个问题:1.Why did the shop assistant show the customer the cheapest clothes? 2.What made the manager and Tod change the attitudes to the customer? 痛过讨论揭示出资本主义社会“money talk”的本质。接着,通过讨论What do you think the relationships between money and life in China? 让学生认识到崇高的理想,成功的事业,真挚的友谊,健康的体魄等都是金钱买不到的,从而树立正确的金钱观。
五、师德垂范法
榜样的力量是无穷的。虽然,本文“一”是有“榜样激励法”,但对学生来说毕竟有些抽象。学生们很自然地会模仿别人的言行。教师和学生们朝夕相处,加之教师在学生心中的特殊地位和份量,教师的一言一行自然地影响到学生。学高为师,身正为范,在教学中教师应精神饱满,热情洋溢,以良好的情绪,高度的事业心和责任感去影响、激发学生积极向上的学习兴趣和发展他们的优良性格及品质。
除此之外,还可利用板报,墙报等给他们一些内容健康的谚语、警句、格言等,让学生潜移默化地接受思想教育。
