This study conducted a systematic review on the empirical studies in knowledge building pedagogy.The Social Science Citation Index(SSCI)was used as the literature source for the review in this study.In the present study a total of 1,349 papers published in international educational journals from 2006 to 2015 were analyzed.A total of 56 papers were identified as empirical studies for reviewing.It is revealed that the research on knowledge building pedagogy has been noticed by more and more scholars in the last decade.Relative more relevant studies were conducted in K-6 and university contexts,suggesting that future research could be conducted in high school and teacher education contexts.Excluding the Knowledge Forum,various platforms were used in the reviewed studies.Regarding the research methods,relative more studies in knowledge building pedagogy tended to use both qualitative and quantitative methods.This study also found that relatively more studies in knowledge building pedagogy were conducted in science learning contexts,suggesting that future studies could be conducted in other subject learning contexts.
