Cauda equina injury (CEI) could lead to the dysfunction of lower extremity, bowel and bladder.Some efforts had been tried to repair CEI and the outcomes were still controversial.Objective: Aim to identify the results following surgical repair after cauda equina transection, a novel animal experimental model was established in goats.Methods: The electrophysiology, histology and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were applied to evaluate the morphological and functional recovery of CEI.Results: The results demonstrated that all afore-mentioned methods were feasible and efficacious in diagnosis and prognosis of CEI.Conclusion: The novel animal model in CEI could provided detailed information about the regeneration process following surgical repair.
