汽油作为化油器式发动机燃料,在进入气缸前先在化油器中汽化并与空气形成混合气。汽油在化油器中蒸发得是否完全,与空气混合的均匀程度及汽油的蒸发性能有关。汽油中轻组分(分子量较小的烃类)含量愈多,蒸发性能就愈好,与空气混合也就愈均匀,进入气缸后燃烧也愈完全,发动机工作也愈正常。但汽油的蒸发性过高,汽油在进入化油器口前的导油管中就会蒸发,形成气阻,中断正常供油,致使发动机停止运行。汽油的蒸发性可由馏程来评定。
