通过对2013年浙江高考英语试题的解读,我们可以发现它坚持考查语言基础知识和语言运用能力以及语言思维能力相结合。因此,词汇放在语境中学,在语境中理解,在语境中运用尤为重要。那么,如何帮助高三学生有效记住如此多的单词,提高他们的英语水平呢?在词汇复习中,本人优化语境设计,提高词汇复习的效率。
一、高频词汇的语境设计
1.同义词的语境设计。我们经常会碰到一些词义接近的词,仅记忆中文词义是模糊不清的。比如像contain 和include; lie和lay;be worth, be worthy of 和be worthwhile等,通过一些句子来加强记忆。(1)The container contains many kinds of fruits, including apples.(2)The boy lying under a tree lied that he had laid an egg.(3)The problem of smog is well worth focusing on. It is also worthy of being thought about by everyone. Is it worthwhile to spend so much money on protecting our surroundings? We think it is worth it at all.
2.多义词的语境设计。一些单词或词组有多层意思,如:passage, observe, deliver, make up, bring up, turn up 等。以“make up”为例:My friend, Jane, is a lovely girl. Four people make up her family, Father, Mother and her sister. She usually makes up stories to amuse her little sister. She also likes spending hours making up every day. Besides, she takes vitamins to keep healthy, which she believe make up what she lack in her diet.
3.不同词性的语境设计。学生在作文中词性使用不正确是一个常见的错误。下面是两则相关语境的设计。
(1)用puzzle的正确形式填空(puzzling, puzzled, puzzled, puzzlement)
The boy his mother, so there was a expression on her face. Much to of his mother, he left home without saying a word.
(2)选用下列单词或短语完成下列小短文:(be satisfied with对… 满意,be far from satisfactory,satisfying,satisfy,to one’s satisfaction,with satisfaction )
In order to (1)________ the needs of my wife, I worked hard day and night. However, one day, the schoolmaster told me though many students (2)_______ my work, as a top teacher, it(3)________.At that time I knew if I wanted(4) ________ my boss, I must work harder than ever before. I did so. A few months later, I was asked to go to the master’s office. He looked at me (5)________ and(6)________, he told me I was promoted as middle leader of our school.
一方面学生学会使用这些词,同时对他们的习作也是很好的改错素材。
二、课文内容语境设计——教材就是好的语境
1.以课文为主线,复现语言知识,补充背景文化。教材的文本语言地道,接近原版,话题新颖,能补充英语文化的背景知识,是很好的载体。因此,教师不妨借用这些材料复习基础语法知识,检测和巩固所学语言知识,培养学生的阅读能力。我们通过教材的语境,帮助学生复习重点词汇,再把重点词汇和句型放在另一个语境中使用。以 Travel journal (Unit 3 Book 1)为例,就Wang Wei的人物性格展开讨论,复习了相关描写人物的形容词(stubborn, determined, reliable, shortcoming)和动词词组(change one’s mind, make up one’s mind, give in to sb., be fond of, prefer to , care about)等。又让学生在课文中找出描写她性格“固执”(stubborn)的一些句子。
A.The proper way is always her way. B.Although she didn’t know the best way of getting to places, she insisted that she organize the trip properly. C.Once she has made up her mind, nothing can change it. D.She gives me a determined look. 2.以单元为整体,重组相同题材,达到温故知新。在复习U1B4 Women of achievement时,通过Jane Goodall和Lin Qiaozhi的故事复习了课文的重点词汇(inspire, support, devote oneself to …, by chance, come across, look down upon, carry on 等)。课后让学生完成下列句子的翻译,在新的故事中学会使用这些单词。例1:① 昨天我碰巧读了一篇有关钱学森教授的一篇文章。② 他1911年出生在浙江,是一个伟大的科学家。③ 年轻时,他就喜欢观察事物。并在家人的支持下,留学美国。④ 在那时,中国人被瞧不起。因此他决定回国研究导弹(missiles)。⑤ 他把他的一生都献给了科学研究,也获得了很多成就。⑥他的精神和决心激励我们要努力学习。
(第二节课就用他们翻译的句子进行挖空,重新复习重点单词。)
例2:Professor Qian,one of the greatest Chinese scientists,was born in zhejiang in 1911.When he was young,he liked o_______ things. With the s_____ of his family,he went abroad to America for further study. At that time Chinese were________, so he decided to return to China and do _________ missiles(导弹). He d______ himself _______ science research and gained lots of a________. It is his spirit and determination that i______ me.
在第一轮复习中,本人尽量地通过语境教学,使学生仿佛置身于英语世界的感觉,加深了学生语言信息的输入,做到学以致用,让学生在语境中达到记忆的最终目的。
总之,创设语境为英语词汇记忆建造了一条高效之路。离开语境,英语词汇就会成为无源之水,无本之木。充分发挥语境在词汇记忆中的作用,定能提高学生的词汇实际应用能力。
