After being published in the United States in 2005, the Chinese-American writer Kui Lisha’s Snowflake and the Secret Fan was welcomed and sought after by American cultural circles and won numerous awards. The novel tells the story of an old story that took place in Jiangyong County, Hunan Province in the 19th century. It shows the cultural phenomena such as women’s books, old women and women’s bound feet. However, under the influence of Orientalism, the author consciously and unconsciously magnified and distorted these historical and cultural scenes in order to cater to the West’s imagination and fiction to the East so as to satisfy the Western culture’s glimpse of the East.
