Imagine entering a cool, dazzling sun from a warm, dark movie theater. Imagine being awakened by the sound of a band playing in a quiet, comfortable sleep. If your sensations and reflexes are normal, these dramatic changes are not only scary, but they can be extremely painful. Now, please imagine if you are a bare newborn, all these changes in feeling to experience what will happen. This impact is what most babies encounter at birth. They face the burning of light, the noise, the cold air, and the fibers that rudely violate their soft skin. Their flexing posture suddenly straightened up. They were crying when they were born. This is described as part of the traumatic birth said by a French doctor, Friedrich Lieb, in the most clean and effective maternity ward in many countries.
