Recent research shows that the use of a new noninvasive, high-resolution imaging device to predict fractures in women is significantly better than existing bone density detection techniques. Researchers at the 27th annual meeting of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) reported on their results of a clinical trial using Xtreme CT instrumentation. Xtreme CT is a peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) that can display skeletal internal structures with high-resolution imaging, whereas previous detection methods used only real-life biopsy specimens. In addition, researchers believe that Xtreme CT can replace invasive surgical biopsies for at least the body’s assessment of skeletal structure to provide high magnification cross-sectional skeletal images.
