492Q 系列汽油机主要生产厂家有北京内燃机总厂、沈阳汽车发动机厂、天津汽车发动机厂以及萍乡、武汉、长沙等。截止到1989年11月1日初步统计全国巳累计生产492Q 系列汽油机150万台,其中北京内燃机总厂巳突破生产100万台大关。该机经过20多年生产中的不断改进,其动力性、经济性、可靠性及排放均有很大提高,巳发生了从量变到质变的可喜变化。随着原材料、协作件涨价及资金、能源紧张,492Q 汽油机成本巳由1975年的1250元/台左右猛涨到3750元/台左右。另外,性能指标巳不能满足新开发的轻型货车、客车、越野车所需配套动力的要求,因此,通过改进设计、改进材料工艺、提高性能、质量、开发新机型,以便更广泛地满足配套的需要,以成为当前的一项重要任务。
