With the advancement of surface science, a variety of new surface analysis methods have been developed. Fifty years ago, electron diffraction experiments successfully demonstrated the well-known De Broglie wave hypothesis in quantum mechanics. To date, the electron diffraction method is still the main method to study the crystallographic problems of solid surface and thin film. Retroreflective high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) technology has also made new advances with the need of surface science.
