西方的“现代艺术”在开始传入东方的 时候被日本的一些文艺理论家和艺术家们称 之为“前卫艺术”。“前卫”一词本为军队用 语,是战斗进行中兵力配置的一种方式。而 将现代艺术冠之以“前卫”之名则明显有其 暗示的意味在内,也就是说对于从事现代艺 术的艺术家来说,是存在一个假想“敌”的, 这个假想敌就是传统艺术、正统艺术以及传 统美学、正统美学,并且他们也预见到会遇 到抵抗。前卫艺术本身所具有的战斗性,既 是由其本身特性所使然,也是其本意。 说到日本前卫书法艺术的发端可以上溯到上世纪的30年代,并在1945-1969年间得到长足发展。然而若是究其因由,则不难见出它的发生发展是与当时的欧美艺术大背景
Western “modern art” was called “avant-garde art” by some Japanese literary theorists and artists at the beginning of its introduction into the East.
