In this study, the effects of microinjection of dopamine (DA) into the caudate nucleus of 28 rats on the activity of pain-excitation neurons (PEN) and pain-inhibitory neurons (PIN) in the caudate nucleus were observed. The results showed that: dopamine can make the caudate nucleus PEN and PIN response to nociceptive stimuli increased, mainly as PEN pain induced discharge increased and PIN-induced inhibition of prolonged course. This effect can be interrupted by intraperitoneal injection of DA receptor blocker haloperidol. It is speculated that caudate nucleus DA can enhance the system of functional activity may have anti-analgesic effect.
