The Blang is one of China’s ancient nationalities. The Blang folklore says the Dai, Lahu, Hani, Blang and Han nationalities all came from the gourd. Although the emperors of dynasties or the chieftains constantly created estrangements between nationalities, the people still keep in contact. The Blang sent sweet potatoes, tea and cotton to the Dai people, who sent the cotton textiles, grain and salt to the Blang. People of different nationalities lived in harmony. The Blang nationality has a population of 82,280 which mainly settled in Menghai County and Lincang region in Xishuangbanna of Yunnan Province. The Blang have no written script, although some can write in mandarin and Dai languages. With the tropical and subtropical climates in the Blang settlement, the local resources are rich. In the native forest of Bada, there is a 1, 700-year tea king. The 34-meter tree proves that China is the home of tea. The local “Puer Tea” is famous at home and abroad.
