This empirical study explores the differences in strategies used by Chinese speakers in English proficiency segmentation at different levels of English listening comprehension. The results showed that subjects with relatively good hearing level obviously demonstrated segmentation strategy of accented speech adapted to English rhythm. Not only do they tend to think of accented syllables in rhetoric as the beginning of independent words, and these words are, in most cases, considered real terms of information-bearing topics. For the subjects with relatively poor hearing, most of the words separated by accented syllables were regarded as real words, but they did not show the sensitivity to accented syllables, and their discourse Stress is the beginning of the word is only a more random segmentation mechanism.
