畲(音奢,Shè)族的名称,据现在所知,最早出现在南宋末年即公元十三世纪中期的汉文书籍上。南宋著名文学家刘克庄(1187—1269年)的《后村大全集》卷93,《漳州论畲》载:“畲民不役,畲田不税,其来久矣。”文天祥(1236—1282年)的《文山全集》卷11,《知潮州寺丞洪公行状》载:“潮与漳、汀接壤,盐寇、輋民,群聚剽劫。”可知当时“畲民”和“輋民”两词并用。到了明代,“畲民”、“輋民”、“畲徭”、“輋徭”等称呼都有使用;不过畲民一词,比较多见。以后,畲民这个名称,更
