英语新课标人教版选修六教材第二单元的中心话题是“Poems”,并且在Reading部分重点介绍了五种简单的英语诗歌形式。在设计本单元教学的时候,我计划学完这个单元的内容后让学生尝试写英文诗。
一、利用Brainstorming形式让学生说出诗歌的写作目的
我在Warming up部分引入话题,请学生背诵他们学过的印象最深刻的或最喜爱的中文诗或童谣。然后提问:Why do people write poems?根据学生的回答和自己的补充,归纳出诗歌的写作目的:To tell a story, to express feelings, to recall an enjoyable or unpleasant incident, to share a feeling or experience, to make others laugh, to describe sth in details or give impression, to get readers to think about an idea, to express a point of view or to play with words—their sounds, rhyme and rhythm, etc.
二、通过诗歌赏析初步了解英文诗的特点
在“A Few Simple Forms of English Poems”的学习中,我先让学生快速阅读并找出文中介绍的五种简体英文诗的形式:nursery rhymes,list poems,cinquain,Haiku,Tang poems.接着,我布置学生阅读其中的A—H八首诗歌,并完成表格,抓住诗歌的主要内容。
我让学生根据文中提供的诗歌范例试归纳出英文诗的特点:有明显强烈的节奏;诗歌可以不押韵,但总是有节奏的;诗歌的魅力在很大程度上决定于它的节奏,它使诗歌和谐、优美,富于音乐感,给读者感官上的满足,产生美的共鸣。接下来我让学生逐个分析每一种诗各自的特征。如Nursery rhymes的特点是:concrete,imaginative,rhyme,have strong rhythm and a lot of repetition,easy to learn and to recite.
大部分学生对英文诗没有多少了解,认为英文诗比不上中文诗,尤其是唐诗宋词。其实,英文诗中也不乏上乘之作,于是我精心挑选了几首外国著名诗人的代表作,配上中文翻译,让学生领略英文诗的优美意境。如英国著名诗人William Blake的作品“A Grain of Sand”,美国L.Hughes的作品“Dreams”,英国Shelley的作品“Ode to the west wind”,印度Tagore的作品“The Furthest Distance in the world”,英国Byron的作品“She Walks in Beauty”.学生欣赏这些诗歌的同时找出了韵律或节奏。
到了这一步,可以介绍英文简体诗的写作方法了。List poem的写法:The writer is telling you something—pointing something out—saying, “Look at this” or “Think about this”. There’s a beginning and an end to it, like in a story. Each item in the list is written the same way. Cinquain的写法:五行诗只有五行,每一行要求有不同的字数,而且词性也不同。Line 1: A noun that names the subject of the poem. Line 2: Two adjectives that describe the subject. Line 3: Three verbs ending with -ing that describe the subject’s actions. Line 4: Four words that give the writer’s opinions or feelings about the subject. Line 5: A word that gives another name for the subject.
找出其规律后我即兴创作了一首五行诗并写在黑板上:
Son
Lovely, naughty
Shouting, crying, laughing
My love and pride
Forever
Haiku的写法:俳句诗要求只有三行,十七个音节,不要求押韵,第一行五个音节,第二行七个音节,第三行五个音节。了解了其形式特点后,我让学生划出课文中两首俳句诗的音节,使他们有更清晰的认识。
三、亲自动笔写诗
刚开始的时候好些学生还是犹豫不决,似乎想不到要写什么东西。针对这种情况我也作了准备,我拿了自己2007年在香港参加培训时写的英文诗集给他们传阅,帮助他们找到灵感。我还介绍了一种简单易写的诗歌形式,类似我们所说的藏头诗。例如:
DANIEL
Diligent at work
Analyses things all around
Never gives up pursuing the truth
Intelligent enough to observe the world
Enthusiastic towards everyday life
Loves family always
学生创作作品时,我走到他们中间为他们解疑指错,以便他们能顺利完成。一节课下来,每个学生都写出了自己的“处女作”。课后我收集了诗作,稍作修改后打印成诗集。学生获得了前所未有的成就感。以下是学生诗作摘选。
Baby, don’t cry! (童谣)
Baby, baby, don’t cry
I will give you a smile
Baby, baby, don’t cry
I will sit here by your side
Baby, baby, don’t cry
I will fly you high
Baby, baby, don’t cry
I will love you all my life
Lovely fallen snowflakes(俳句)
Like tired white butterflies
All the men are absorbed deeply
Cover the whole earth
But a picture

I Saw a Fish Fly in the Sky(清单诗)
I saw a fish fly in the sky,
I saw an ant fly the kite,
I saw a potato who was sick,
I saw a man whose head looked like a brick,
I saw two steamed bread fight in a bag,
I saw a cat look at the map,
I saw an apple eat a fly,
I saw a mouse turn on the light,
I saw a tomato surf on the sea,
I saw a bag spit out the peas,
I saw the snow cover the spring,
I saw the winter was full of green.
You thought I was a fool,
But I thought they were really cool!
My Teacher Miss Ye(打油诗)
There is a teacher Miss Ye
Who is lovely like a deer
Always inspiring us to try
She leads us to a sunny sky
We are proud of her forever
Nobody can ever replace her.
CHINA (藏头诗)
Can you speak Chinese?
Have you been to China?
It is the most beautiful country.
Natural scenery is our wealth.
All the people are welcome.
