The Taisho 11-year (1922) version of the Japanese-equipped 6.5mm light machine gun has a structurally large opening and a special bullet sump that makes it easy for the dirt to enter the interior of the machine gun. In the Chinese battlefield that is different from the ideal environment envisaged by the Japanese army, the very grave yellow sand caused by China's entry into the gun caused very serious problems. The 11-year-old light machine gun started its invasion from Shandong in 1927 and its design flaws became more and more apparent when it struck in a completely different environment from the Japanese mainland when the “September 18” incident of 1931 was carried out. The military demanded that the next type of machine gun eliminate these shortcomings.
