水稻是日本的主要粮食作物。自六十年代以来,日本的水稻生产和科学技术都发展很快,不仅在水稻单位面积产量上居世界前列,而且对水稻生产过程中的各项作业,已全部采用机械操作,实现了水稻生产和科学技术现代化。1978年九、十月间,我曾参加中国农业代表团去日本进行考察,参观了一些以水稻为主的科研、生产单位,座谈讨论了日本实现农业现代化的经验,现就所获的有关材料和所见所闻整理如下,供参考。一、日本水稻生产发展概况日本是一个山多田少、人多地少的国家。全国土地面积为37.7万平方公里,相当于三个半浙江省。其中丘陵、山区占85%,平原占15%。全国耕地面积为8,272万亩,其中水田4,695万亩。总人口为1.13亿人,其中农业人口2,256万人,占总人口的20%。按总
