“一个女人之为女人,与其说是天生的,不如说是形成的”。波伏娃这句名言在觉醒的女性之间广为流传。她否定了任何先天的生理决定论,批判了女人天生不如男的偏见,对于我们认识自己被父权制文化强制定位于“第二性”的生存处境,具有振聋发聩的作用。可是波伏娃没有说出女人在被形成这样的女人之前是什么,没有能够从文化层面回答我们从哪里来又到哪里去的问题。理安·艾斯勒的文化人类学和未来学著作《圣杯与剑》对此
