日本小松制作所研制出连续监视机床切削加工状态,并能直接测出刀尖微小崩刃和磨损的装置,名为“刀具故障监视装置”,现已开始出售。在这以前,作为机械加工中心或数控机床的附件,检测刀具故障的装置已经研制出来,但此种装置检测出故障后,仅限于发出警报,停机待查;而小松制作所新研制的装置,不仅能检测出0.5mm左右的徽小崩刃或磨损,而且能即刻停止加工,发出使刀具退回及自动复位的指令,具有使其恢复正常加工状态的功能。刀具自动复位技术的实际应用,被认为是给工厂实现无人化带来了佳音。小松
