The relationship between metacognitive strategy and autonomous learning American psychologist Flavell put forward the concept of metacognition in 1976. Metacognition is the executive skill of learners to effectively manage the learning process and ensure the success of learning activities. Metacognitive strategy, also known as regulation and control strategy, refers to the strategy learners use to monitor, regulate or self-direct learning behaviors. Being able to develop a learning plan, monitor the learning process, and self-assess learning outcomes are the three core elements of a metacognitive strategy.
