The Alcoa Aluminum Plant in Canada, which owns the direct aluminum smelter, has now been completed. The plant was originally planned to be put into operation in late 1963, but due to the training of administrative and technical staff, the official production date will be delayed for a few months. The plant’s design, construction and equipment are based on trial production has been carried out in stages to continuously improve. Design issues encountered in the transition from a pilot plant to industrial production were said to have been successfully solved. The design of the production process is continuous. The purpose of early trial production of the plant was to determine how much capital and production costs would be needed for large-scale production. Alcan is considering how to “expand” the sales of primary aluminum and seek “sound” supply and demand relations after the plant is officially put into operation.
