海派文化在广泛吸收吴越文化的同时,将昆曲纳入了上海流行文化中,使昆曲成为海派文化重要的组成部分。明代上海家班对昆曲的演出、传播起了重要的作用。太平天国革命以后,昆剧活动的中心从苏州转移到上海,洪福、大章、大雅、全福等四大昆班纷纷向上海发展,上海三雅园成为专演昆剧的固定场所;近代上海成为昆曲演出的新基地,昆剧传习所、新乐府、仙霓社的建立、诞生、组建,为昆曲从演出到演员的培养等提供了一系列的条件,为昆曲的再度振兴做出了巨大贡献;建国后,华东戏曲学院昆曲演员训练班为昆曲培养了继承人,他们对昆曲事业起到了承上启下的作用;尤其是上世纪70年代末,上海昆剧团的诞生,标志着戏曲春天的到来,为昆曲走向全国、走向市场、走向世界,发挥了举足轻重的作用,上海是昆曲的重要基地。
