According to the actual conditions and needs of the patient positioning control system in Lanzhou heavy ion cancer treatment facility, the hardware of this system is designed. ARM and FPGA are chosen to be the core processors in this hardware system after fully research and consideration. The hardware system consists of three PCB boards, and the architecture of the system is showed in Fig.1. Board 0 is based on ARM9, and it provides a variety of standard interfaces such as LCD display and USB interface and so on. This board has complete performance and can fulfill the system management and logical control function. Board 1 and board 2 directly connect some electrical components in the system, including servo drive, encoder, brakes, and clutches. At the same time, there are many user interfaces and system interfaces on the two boards, which can eventually meet the needs of automatic control and manual control system.
