“,”DNA damage repair mechanisms play a crucial role in maintaining the stability of the genome. Base excision repair (BER) is the main mechanism for repairing endogenous DNA damage caused by reactive oxygen species. The polymorphisms in BER core genes affect the function of encoded proteins, reduce the ability of DNA damage repair, and increase the risk of cancer in certain populations. This article reviews the progress in the study on gene polymorphism in BER in tumors.
