Objective To investigate the effects of EEG monitoring and EEG grading on brain function and prognosis in patients with severe craniocerebral injury. Methods Sixty patients with severe craniocerebral injury underwent EEG monitoring and the EEG grading and Glasgow (GCS) scores and Glasgow prognosis (GOS) scores were combined to determine the changes of brain function and prognosis. Results 60 cases of severe head injury in patients with initial EEG examination all abnormal. EEG grading was negatively correlated with its corresponding GCS score (r = -0.795, P <0.01). EEG grading was also negatively correlated with its corresponding GOS score (r = -0.583-0.806, P <0.01) There was a significant correlation between grading and its corresponding GOS score (P <0.01). Conclusions EEG monitoring and its EEG grading can objectively evaluate the changes of brain function in severe craniocerebral injury from the electrophysiological point of view and judge the prognosis of patients.
