1997年5月的一天晚上,我们驱车向美东海岸进发,直奔纽约。夜深深,大地在沉睡,然而公路上车水马龙,一片繁忙景象,小外孙兴奋得无丝毫倦意。小外孙最爱玩具车,也最喜欢坐车,他看到各种各样的小轿车、面包车、大型箱车穿梭往来,奔驰在高速公路上,格外高兴。他来美国不久,已能识别好多车,诸如“林肯”、“宝马”、“奔驰”、“丰田”等。经过16小时的车程,我们于次日中午抵达世界上最大最繁华的城市之一——纽约。我们驾车在哈德逊河大道上缓缓而行,电视连续剧《北京人在纽约》中湛蓝的滔滔江水映着幢幢摩天大厦的美景真实地重现在眼前。坐落在繁华地段的哈德逊河大道520号的中国总领事馆,门前镶嵌着庄严的中国国徽,五星红旗在迎风飘扬。使我们感到自豪和尊严。
One night in May 1997, we drove to the east coast of the United States and headed for New York.
