Since the advent of Mr. Zheng Zhenduo’s “History of Chinese Popular Literature” in the 1930s, the name “vulgar literature” is recognized by the world. In the 1940s, the newspapers and periodicals in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing all published regularly and supplemented by “vulgar literature” supplements, which produced a marked social impact. After the founding of new China, the field of this discipline has been broadened, and personnel engaged in specialized research have gradually formed echelon.
