奥斯卡·王尔德(1854—1900)是英国著名剧作家、诗人、散文家,以其剧作、诗歌、小说和童话而闻名于世,虽然他一生仅仅创作了9篇童话,但篇篇都可谓传世经典之作。同时,奥斯卡·王尔德也是英国唯美主义的倡导者和实践者,主张人们应该在生活中以审美的态度认识美、鉴别美、欣赏美,因此,奥斯卡·王尔德不可避免地会在自己的作品中流露出其唯美主义的观点和态度。笔者将以王尔德创作于1888年的《快乐王子和其他故事》中的《快乐王子》一文为研究对象,从故事的语言、情节及人物的角度分析该文与唯美主义的联系并得出王尔德的唯美观遍布他的故事里的结论。
