Introduction In a two-arm method that compares the phase shift changes of both waveguide components and a standard phase shifter, the minimum or zero value can be used to indicate that signals from both arms have opposite phases on the detector. When the amplitudes of the two signals are equal, a true zero value can be obtained by matching the phases. However, if there is a change in the amplitude of the wave during the measurement, only the minimum is generated. This value gets larger as the difference between the signal amplitudes increases.
