Intra-industry trade is often cited as a key factor in supporting the New Trade Theory. However, this dissertation raises a number of questions about this observation from both theoretical and empirical aspects. The static and dynamic econometric models based on data from 68 countries show that in the short and long term both the economy and consumer preferences, geographical locations, trade imbalances, and the trade environment (national economic openness) Internal trade has an impact. These findings prompted the New Trade Theory to reexamine the “evidence” that supports it.
