五色糯米饭是壮族群众的传统风味美食,因糯米饭呈红黄蓝黑白五种色彩而得名。尤其是农历三月三、清明节、端午节等重大传统节日,更是壮族群众家家户户必备的待客特色食品。每逢重大节日到来前夕,壮乡群众便忙着制作五色糯米饭,做好过节前的准备。在广西靖西县,蒸五色糯米饭大多选用当地盛产的大香糯,经染料制作、淘米浸泡、上锅蒸煮等多道工艺制成。制作五色糯米饭要备的染料主要有枫叶、黄姜(黄花)、红丝线等草本
