四冲程发动机的进排气门和二冲程发动机的排气门,由于进气门和排气门的工作温度不同,使用钢种也不同。发动机的输出功率有l～2马力的,也有数千马力的大型发动机;使用燃料有柴油,重油,汽油,其性质也不同,另外由于发动机设计不同,气门的工作温度也不同,因此,对气门性能的要求范围很广,所以气门要求使用的材料种类也很多。 世界各主要工业国内燃机气门钢都有系列(见附表)可以作到因材施用,不同工况发动机的气门,采用不同材料。
