The Ca2+ activated C1-channels (CaCCs) play varieties of physiological roles in many organs and tissues, including transduction of sensory stimuli, regulation of neuronal and cardiac excitability, and transepithelial Cl-secretion.The recent identification of TMEM16A protein as an important component of CaCCs should allow a better understanding of their physiological roles and regulatory mechanisms.
