Sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy is an accepted alternative to axillary dissection in the surgical staging of breast cancer.Implementing this technique still involves unanswered questions and dilemmas.Even though in 40-60% of all cases the SLN is the only node with tumor there is a major debate about the necessity of completion of axillary lymph node dissection (CLND).Tumor characteristics like tumor size, lympho-vascular invasion, and lymph node characteristics like number of SLN examined or size of metastasis (micro or macro) can be partial prediction aids.
