This single-camera comedy[单机摄影的喜剧] introduces us to Samantha Newly, a hit-and-run[肇事后逃逸的] victim who awakens after being in a coma for eight days, only to find she has amnesia[失忆症]. With no memories of the past, she must rediscover everything about her life and herself by looking for clues from her past. Sam discovers that she wasn’t a very nice person to most people and she is determined to change that. She also discovers that she cheated on her boyfriend Todd with a married man. Sam attempts to live with Todd after the accident, but soon realizes it won’t work and has no other choice but to move back home with her parents. Sam even learns that her “accident” was no accident at all, but a failed attempt at someone trying to kill her, but who? Slowly but surely little parts of her start to emerge to the delight of some and to the shock of others. Will she change or will she act like she did before her amnesia?

  Scene One

Having 1)amnesia is like driving an 2)obstacle course. I mean, I guess that’s what it’s like. Since my accident, no one will let me drive.
  Samantha: Daddy!
Samantha’s dad: Ah-oh, have you asked your mother?
Samantha: No. Silly. No. I was just thinking about, you know, independence and freedom and how those are really keys to being an American, you know? I mean, you like America, don’t ya?
Samantha’s dad: You know who really loves America? Your mother.
Samantha: Dad, can I please borrow your car tonight?
  Samantha’s dad: Not a chance.
Samantha: Yes! Why not? Come on, dad. The 3)neurologist cleared me for driving a couple of weeks ago.
Samantha’s dad: Great. Then borrow his car.
Samantha: Come on, daddy. The amnesia only affected my memory. It did not affect my driving skills.
Samantha’s dad: You know what your driving skills have gotten me in the past? Two 4)busted garage doors and the death of a squirrel that was like a little pet to me.
Samantha: You don’t trust me. You don’t think I’ve changed.
Samantha’s dad: Samantha, trust is not a given; it’s earned.
Samantha: Yes, but how am I supposed to earn it if you won’t even give me a chance? Please, I’ve changed. Look, I spend all day explaining that to people. I don’t wanna have to convince my own parents.
Samantha’s dad: Doggone it! This is why I said to ask your mother. Don’t be a 5)stinker. Use the6)blinker.
  Samantha: OK.
Samantha’s dad: Ten and two is good for you. Speeding’s a thrill, but it can surely kill. And don’t ride the damn 7)brake. I don’t have a rhyme for that. Just don’t do it.

  Scene Two

Andrea: Where were you last night?
Samantha: Oh, my god. We didn’t meet you at eight.
  Dena: We can totally explain.
  Andrea: I’m waiting.
Dena: Well, see, um … we were about to leave, and I got a phone call.
  Andrea: From who?
  Dena: My dog.
Samantha: It was about her dog. She got a phone call from the vet.
Andrea: Are you two keeping something from me?
  Samantha: No. Why?
Andrea: He called on a Friday night? That’s special vet.
Samantha: Well, it’s a special dog.
  Andrea: What’d he say?
  Samantha: Nothing. He’s a dog.
  Andrea: I meant the vet.
Samantha: He said that we should watch the dog.
  Andrea: Why?
  Samantha: Because he’s special.
Andrea: So you should watch him?
Samantha: I was talking about the vet.
Andrea: I was talking about the dog.
Samantha: What do you wanna know?
Andrea: Why didn’t you answer your cell?
Samantha: I was on the phone.
  Andrea: All night?
  Samantha: With the vet.
  Andrea: Impressive.
  Samantha: Like I said.
  Andrea: he’s special.
  Samantha: Mm-hmm …

  Scene Three

Samantha’s mom: Samantha! What are you still doing out here? Aren’t you ever gonna try out your new car?
  Samantha: Yeah. Soon.
Samantha’s mom: You should see your father. He is so happy. Oh, this morning when he thought you’d been hurt, he told me he’d never been so worried. I was offended. I said, “What about that time that I had those 8)polyps removed?” I was under9)general anesthesia. Anything could have happened. What if I had …
Samantha: I pushed the car into a lake.
  Samantha’s mom: You did what?
Samantha: Some invisible10)raccoon with a mask made me crash into a tree, and I didn’t want dad to think that he couldn’t trust me, so I panicked, and I sank the car.
Samantha’s mom: So you lied to us?
Samantha: Yeah. But I confessed. Did you see that? I … I confessed. I mean, old Sam wouldn’t have done that.
Samantha’s mom:Your father felt awful about not trusting you. This is gonna break his heart.
Samantha: No, no, please, please, please, please don’t tell him. Please, please, he can trust me, OK? I just … I just made a mistake. Look, I couldn’t stand it if I broke his heart.
Samantha’s mom: Well, I guess we’ve all made mistakes.
Samantha: Mm-hmm, yeah. We all have.
Samantha’s mom: And I suppose telling him is not gonna bring the car back.
Samantha: Oh, no, no, it probably won’t come back at all.
Samantha’s mom: You know how I hate lying to your father. But I guess I could … keep this from him.
  Samantha: Thank you. Thank you.
Samantha’s mom: I just need you to do one thing for me.

  Scene Four

  Samantha’s dad: You’re kidding.
  Samantha: No. It’s all true.
Samantha’s dad: And you did this, too, Regina?
Samantha’s mom: I have no idea what she’s talking about. Poor thing. Back to the neurologist, I say.
Samantha: I’m really sorry, dad. Please take my car back.
Samantha’s dad: Sammy. I spend a lot of time not thinking about my emotions. It’s hard work, but it pays off. Then the other morning when I thought about you dead by the side of the road, it just rushed in how important you are to me. So if it cost me a car to remember that every time I see you in it, I got off cheap.
Samantha: So … then I can keep it?
  Samantha’s dad: Yeah.
  Samantha: Yes!
So a 11)bonk on the head does make you free to change who you are. But there are curves in the road along the way, and no matter how far you’ve gone to be who you wanna be, who you were is always behind you and closer than they appear.
