As more people pre-plan their own 1)funerals, there’s a demand for more personalized options.
A new one, the El Paso Saddle Blanket Company has a new line of 2)caskets inspired by the southwest, and some pay 3)tribute to cowboy culture.
Luc Wells (Store Manager): Obviously there’s lots of people that…live kind of a western lifestyle, and they don’t necessarily have to live on a 4)ranch, you know…
And when the time comes they may want a casket that reflects that lifestyle.
Luc: … and there was a need for that, we saw around the country, you know, whether it’s Texas and Oklahoma or Arizona, or…Colorado.

So the El Paso Saddle Blanket’s Last Rodeo Casket Company created this brand new line.
Man A: This is real Brazilian cowhide…
Luc: Yep, it’s first grade Brazilian 5)cowhide.
There’s a range of choices for those who lived life on the range. From working cowboys to…
Luc: This is the “Cattle King.”
The hand-crafted caskets also 6)appeal to admirers of southwestern culture.
Woman B: If I had to be buried in something, that would be something good to be buried in, definitely.
Luc: Feminine belt accent pieces there; some real pretty tooled leather and 7)concha.
Woman C: So this is for the western woman.
Luc: Western woman.
The prices are comparable to caskets sold by funeral homes. This visitor from Montana took pictures to show her friends back home.
Woman C: They’re gonna be just astounded that something this gorgeous is available in their style.
Most shoppers browsing in the store for other southwestern items were surprised to see the caskets.
Luc: Some people, that’s their…their first impression, they want to know, “Are you serious?”, and frankly, we are.
Dead serious. The chief of the West Texas Tigua Indian Tribe was buried in this model.
Luc: “Bound for Glory” … an’ what’s really special about this one really is that…is this is hand-tooled saddle leather.
The company is so confident this concept will 8)catch on, it’s expanding to include a line of 9)urns for customers who want to be 10)cremated.
These caskets are not for everyone.
Man B: Too much! More than I want.
But now there’s a choice for those who want their final resting place to capture the spirit of the southwest.
