Carlovyraky, located 10km west of Prague by the Ohre, is a small beautiful mountainous city built in 1349, and now is a famous resort1.
This small city is full of green trees and sweet smelling flowers which you cannot find in big cities. The rolling paths are covered green. Few people walk in a hurry and even cats walk slowly. The business center of the small city is where several roads come together. Here buildings are clearly laid out with different types of windows, some are arched2 or rectangular3; some are like palace castle windows; some even copy the style of a church. All look solemn4 and mysterious. On top of the buildings are many carvings, including the statue of liberty, animals and beautiful patterns. These carvings and fresh flowers on the balconies5 add to the beauty of this city.
Carlovyraky, known as “the Pearl of Czech”, is a city famous for its springs. It is said that in the mid-14th century when Bohemian King Charles IV went hunting, a deer startled6 and rushed to the top of a very tall cliff, and fell off. When King Charles IV went to pick up the deer, he found it lying in the spring at the foot of the mountain. He was pleased to see the spring giving off steam and named it Carsbade Spring. There are 19 springs in the city spurting7 from deep under the ground. Some water columns can spurt as high as 15m. Seen from the distance, they are quite amazing. The tourist buy mugs from local peddlers8 in order to drink spring water, while others fill their mineral9 water bottles with spring water to enjoy slowly.
It is never tiring to travel in Carlovytaky where you can take special carriages for sight seeing or simply sit down and listen to music played in the street or to babbling10 spring water.
We came across a traffic accident. Unexpectedly, both sides politely exchanged the telephone numbers and cards rather than quarreling with each other. The policeman quickly cleared the spot and solved the problems satisfactorily. This incident shows that the people in this small city are generous and friendly.
We met a sailor in the castle who has been to China. He was pleased to see us here and told us his impressions of China.
Since the 1950s Carlovyraky holds an international film festival every two years, which brings international attention. All the year round Carlovyraky welcomes guests from around the world. Famous people like Marx, Goethe, Pushkin, Beethoven and Chopin spent memorable years here. The hospitable people in Carlovyraky welcome you to visit the city.

卡罗维发利素有“捷克明珠”之称，是著名的“温泉城”。据说公元14世纪中叶，波西米亚王查理四世打猎时惊起了一头梅花鹿，小鹿逃至万丈悬崖崖顶，舍命坠崖。查理四世取鹿时发现它恰好坠在山下泉水里，泉水里弥漫着如雾如烟的热气，见此景，查理四世大喜，便将此泉命名为“卡尔斯马德温泉”。小城内有19眼温泉，泉水自地下喷出，有的水柱达15米，从远处望去，此番景象令人赞叹不已。游客们从当地商贩处买了杯子品尝泉水，也有人拿矿泉水瓶盛满泉水慢慢享用。
游览卡罗维发利，你可以乘坐富有特色的观光马车，这样就永远不会有累的时候。当然你也可以席地而坐，欣赏街头音乐或倾听泉水叮咚。
我们恰巧碰到一起交通事故。出乎意料的是，肇事双方并没有互相指责，而是友好地交换了电话号码和名片。警察迅速地清理了现场，并以双方都满意的方式解决了问题。这件事充分体现了小城人民的友好和大方。
我们在城堡里遇到一位到过中国的当地水手。在这里遇到我们，他感到很高兴，并兴致勃勃地向我们讲起了他对中国的印象。
