“Inorganic chemistry” is the first grade basic course in the chemistry department of higher education institutions in China. It is based on middle school chemistry, and it also serves as an outpost for other basic courses such as analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry. It is an enlightening curriculum for cultivating chemical workers. With the development of science and the ever-increasing level of middle school chemistry, it is worth discussing how exactly the “inorganic chemistry” curriculum should be set up. Let us first review the history of the freshman chemistry class in the past 20 years. At the beginning of the liberation, most universities set up general chemistry in the first grade, focusing on basic chemical principles and introducing the nature of a few typical elements. The representative textbook is Bao Lin’s “Generalization”.
