I. INTRODUCTION This paper aims to reconstruct the early Confucian outlook on justice. My concern is not justice in the general sense or virtue as virtue, but disti-ibutive justiee and social justice. The question I want to explore is: Does Confucianism contain the notion of distributive justice and social justice? Are there ethical principles in Confucianism that govern the allocation of resources? Are they principles of justice?
