开化纸作为一种特殊的刻书用纸,在中国印刷史、文献史上获得了极高的评价,甚至被誉为“清代书籍刻印的楷模”。一般认为开化纸明末开始出现,又可写作开花纸、桃花纸;或以为开化纸为清代内府刻书主要用纸,或因产于开化县而得名,类似的结论已被学者们普遍接受。然而,经笔者研究发现,开化纸并非创始自明清之际,而是一种在明代宫廷中就已经大量使用的公文用纸;清代殿本所用之纸既非开化县所产,也与明代的开化纸并非同一物,近人称其为“开化纸”是因讹致误。
As a special kind of carved calligraphy paper, Kaihua paper gained a very high reputation in the history of printing and literature in China. It was even praised as “a model for marking books in the Qing Dynasty”. It is generally believed that Kaihua paper began to appear in the late Ming Dynasty and could also be used as flowering paper and peach paper. Or, it was generally accepted by scholars that Kaihua paper was used as the main paper for engraving in the Qing Dynasty, or named for the county of Kaihua County accept. However, after the author’s study found that Kaihua paper was not founded on the occasion of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but a kind of official paper that has been widely used in the court of the Ming Dynasty. The paper used by the Dianben in the Qing Dynasty was neither produced by Kaihua County nor The Kaihua paper of the Ming Dynasty was not the same thing, and was recently called “Kaihua paper” because of erroneous mistakes.
