One of the major issues facing mankind today is the prospect of global warming associated with the greenhouse effect. The meteorological community has obtained long-term measurements of atmospheric parameters at the global scale and has established several models of predictions. However, from the model predictions, there is almost no clear conclusion beyond the consensus that the temperature of the atmosphere will rise. Many of the model's uncertainties stem from inadequate understanding of the role of oceans in climate control. As a result, the attention of the scientific community in the World Ocean Day Experiment (WOCE) and Joint Global Ocean Current Study (JGOFS) programs now focuses on oceanographic research. The purpose of these projects is to raise awareness and provide a broad data base for modeling ocean processes on a global scale, culminating in atmospheric patterns.
