一位生活在云南大理的北方姑娘每天畫上一朵云,配上名字和小故事分享在网上,给人们带来慰藉和温暖。
Zhou Yu, who lives in Dali, Southwest Chinas Yunnan Province, has drawn more than 700 pictures based on photographs of clouds. Zhou, from North Chinas Tianjin, draws one cloud picture every day.
In her works, every cloud has its life and story. Clouds can be turned into a whale or a cute cat. Comforted by Zhous drawings, Internet users call Zhou “a translator of clouds”.
Having been a magazine editor, and with experience in shooting documentaries and art education for kids, Zhou wanted a lifestyle away from the busy life. So she came to Dali for the poetic life she dreams of.
“There was a moment when I thought its worth it to do these little things. There are indeed people needing them,” says Zhou. “I hope everyone who sees the cloud drawings can find solace(慰藉), be amused, or be touched by them. That will make all my efforts worthwhile.”
Zhou Yu started drawing cloud pictures since August 18, 2019. She thought the clouds in Dali were attractive. It would be a waste and pity not to draw them. So she decided to create something new based on her imagination and photos of clouds. Her friends told her that her drawings are comforting and some people going through depression told her that they were much consoled by them.
At the worst of the COVID?19 epidemic in China, people were seized by anxiety. So was Zhou Yu. She felt incapable of doing anything. Then she thought perhaps she could do something with her cloud drawings. She drew lots of pictures to lift peoples spirits. On April 4, 2020, which was Chinas Tomb Sweeping Day, she drew a picture for the medical workers who made the supreme sacrifice during the fight against the epidemic to express gratitude for their dedication. There was a rainbow in their hands.
She will draw more on the themes that can warm and comfort people, whether they are under pressure in big cities or suffering from depression. The happiness they feel when seeing her works makes it all worthwhile and it is one of the reasons why she keeps on creating these images.
