Washington Department of Defense will spend four months studying the following issues: assessing the technology used in the Army’s ballistic missile defense program; reviewing the overall ABM anti-missile program; and using the ABM system not only to defend ICBMs Missiles and also used to defend the Strategic Air Command base of bomber and command, control and communications center and make preparations. Congress approved the anti-missile appropriation of 273.6 million U.S. dollars in fiscal year 1981. While the Department of Defense was studying these issues, the Reagan administration made a request to Congress for an additional 39 million U.S. dollars in anti-ballistic missile funding. The Department of Defense also demanded that an additional 92 million U.S. dollars should be added to the 1982 fiscal year budget to bring the total amount of the anti-missile funds in FY 1982 to 450 million U.S. dollars.
