Status of Aluminum Supply and Demand By the end of 1997, the total number of electrolytic aluminum plants in China reached 104, with a production capacity of 2.6 million tons / year, as many manufacturers and small scale as the world’s largest . Aluminum production has risen from 721,000 tons in 1988 to 2,040,000 tons in 1997, with an average annual increase of 12.4%. Aluminum consumption has risen from 820,000 tons in 1988 to 2.18 million tons in 1997, with an average annual increase of 11.5% %, See Table 1 for details. 2. Supply and Demand of Aluminum By the end of 1997, more than 1000 aluminum processing plants nationwide, with a production capacity of over 3 million tons / year and equipment utilization
