Indeed, his dark tanned face and arms, as well as his thin, sturdy body, like millions of other Chinese peasants, have been striving to help them for the past 50 years. Dr. Yuan planted rice varieties known as “super hybrid rice ”. In 1974, he became the first agricultural pioneer in the world to grow high-yielding rice. This particular paddy yields more than one-third of the yield in the same field. More than 60% of the rice produced in China now comes from this hybrid rice variety.
