The high-quality spectral data produced by the novel push-broom hyperspectral thermal imagers can be used to characterize materials in many defensive, field, and industrial applications. Hyperspectral thermal imagers provide information that conventional spectrographic imagers can not provide. Compared with visible near-infrared and short-wave infrared imaging systems, medium-wave infrared and long-wave infrared hyperspectral thermal imaging instruments can detect, map and classify a wider range of materials.
