Universal Resource Identifier (URI) The ability of the Web to connect once and for all is that it can point to any file (or any other type of resource) in the information world. This requires that identifiers have a global footprint. These universal resource identifiers are basic elements of the Web network architecture. This well-known structure starts with http before, indicating the space that the rest of the string points to. Any new space with a logo, name, or address can be given a prefix and then become part of the URI space. The nature of any URI determines the nature of the space it points to. The nature of a space depends not only on technical factors, such as its definition and grammar, but also on social factors, such as the conventions on how to allocate and redistribute identifiers.
